Where will the race’s proceeds go?

The purpose of this race is to raise money and awareness for fragile X syndrome. According to the CDC, fragile X syndrome is “the most common known cause of inherited intellectual disability.” It is caused by a mutation on the FMR1 gene on the X chromosome and leads to intellectual disability, hyperactivity issues, and several characteristic physical features.

100% of race proceeds will be donated to FRAXA Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to finding treatments and eventually a cure for fragile X. Started in 1994 by three parents of children with fragile X, FRAXA has raised over $25 million in support of advancing research towards finding a cure for the condition. how to enter

  • Asheville School students and faculty: Click the “Sign Up” button above OR talk to Mr. Gregory or a member of the Final Frontier fourth-form service group to enter.

  • Asheville-Buncombe residents: Click the “Sign Up” button to enter.

An entry fee of $10 will be charged to students and a $15 fee to faculty and anyone from off campus. Anyone, including students, faculty, and off-campus guests, can also pay a $25 fee for a charitable entry. This fee includes your entry to the race as well as a goodie bag with a T-shirt and other items included. *Note: If you did not sign up by MARCH 23, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a goodie bag.

 

Proceeds

All net proceeds from this event will go to FRAXA. Asheville School will make no profit from this event.

race day details

  • Registration: Register using the “Sign Up” button above.

  • Location: Asheville School (360 Asheville School Road, Asheville, NC 28806). Follow the signs to the start line.

  • Date: Saturday, April 6, 2019

  • Time: The race will start promptly at 10:30 AM. You must arrive at least half an hour early (10:00 AM). If you plan to pay on race day, you MUST arrive at least an hour early (9:30 AM) to ensure that you have time to register and pay.

  • Fees: $10 entry fee for students. $15 entry fee for Asheville School faculty and off campus participants. $25 fee for a charitable entry.

  • Parking: Park in front of Mitchell Hall or on the grassy areas between the gym and Mitchell Hall. Parking is limited, so we encourage you to carpool if that is at all possible.

  • Awards: Homemade pies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, the youngest finisher, the oldest finisher, and the most spirited finisher.
